Pregnancy Timeline

First Trimester
Weeks 1-13
During the first trimester, your baby develops rapidly. Major organs and systems begin to form. You might experience morning sickness, fatigue, and tender breasts as your body adjusts to pregnancy hormones.
Second Trimester
Weeks 14-27
The second trimester is often called the "golden period" of pregnancy. You'll likely feel better as morning sickness subsides. You'll begin to feel your baby move, and you might find out the baby's sex during an ultrasound.
Third Trimester
Weeks 28-40
In the final trimester, your baby grows rapidly and gains weight. You might experience discomfort as the baby gets larger. Prepare for labor and delivery, and watch for signs of approaching labor.

Key Pregnancy Milestones

Week 4-5
Implantation occurs, and the placenta begins to form. The embryo is now called a blastocyst.
Week 6-7
The heart begins to beat, and brain development accelerates. Limb buds appear.
Week 12
The risk of miscarriage drops significantly. All major organs and systems have formed.
Week 16-20
You may feel the baby's first movements (quickening). An anatomy scan is typically performed.
Week 24
The baby's lungs are developing branches. The baby now weighs about 1.5 pounds.
Week 28
Third trimester begins. The baby can now open its eyes and has developed regular sleep cycles.
Week 32-36
The baby gains significant weight. You might experience Braxton Hicks contractions as your body prepares for labor.
Week 37-40
Full term! The baby is ready for birth. Watch for signs of labor: water breaking, contractions, and bloody show.
